With the month being half over I figured it was time to finally announce the site for this month. For November I will be re-imaging DealCrew.com. This will be V3 of DealCrew since I first bought the name in 2002(!). V1 was a from scratch PHP site - mostly done as a way to learn the language. V2, the current version that is live, uses the Xoops CMS. Right now the site is a very generic shopping portal. There are a million others like it. As part of the re-imaging I will be dropping 90% of the functionality and releasing the site as OriginalSignal/PopURLS for shopping. The one feature I will be keeping is the coupon listing, which is all automated and gathered from spidering the internet.

I’m a huge fan of 1-page sites, like this will be and like RSStalker is. Do one thing, but do it well. There are way too many sites that try to be all things to everyone and end up just being stretched too thin and too complex.

Of course I will be using CakePHP for this project. I don’t expect to be pushing my knowledge too much, so cranking out the site should happen relatively quickly.
