Watch Me Sign Up For Slicehost...The Boringest Screencast Ever

Posted by Matt on Mon, Mar 16 2009

I'm telling you now that this is terribly boring. Don't watch it for the content. I would appreciate some comments on the screencasting part. How does it look? Is the audio too soft/high? What annoyed you more: my excessive "ums", "uhs", or "ahs"?

I'm going to shoot for some more interesting screencasts in the future and I have a pretty good post (almost) ready to go for tomorrow. But for now...

WOOO, that was the most exciting screencast I've ever seen!!!! But keeping it strictly PHP is nice, especially just CakePHP. :)

What tool did you use to create that screencast ?

I did the recording with CamStudio and edited it with VideoStudio X2. I’m happy with CamStudio, less so with VideoStudio.

It was a little difficult to read some of the text due to the resizing in comparison to the original format's dimensions. I thought your voice volume was quite clear and loud (I much prefer too loud over too soft, I can always lower my volume). However, there was very little going on to tell exactly what other suggestions could be made.

Hey Brendon,
Thanks for the feedback. Yea, the embed is half the resolution of the actual video. It should be much clearer in full screen.

I like recording in HD (1280x720), but if I embed that size it can make this blog look retarded depending on your monitor size. I thought I could play it both ways, but making the embed smaller and you could go to full screen if you needed the clarity. Probably most people just watch the embed and never realize...UX fail on my part.

Full screen was fine, volume was fine, clarity and quality was all good - but hell yeah that was boring ;-)
